Chemical Damp Proof Course

A chemical damp proof course is a drilled barrier for rising damp in UK masonry, used only after a survey shows groundwater is the cause. It is for solid walls with a confirmed tide mark, not for condensation or a leak. Request a quote with the form or WhatsApp.

A chemical damp proof course is one method for rising damp. It is specified only after the survey shows groundwater is the cause.

Symptoms

What people notice first

Rising damp already confirmed in a wall that can be drilled

An old course that is missing or broken, with salts low on the wall

A solid wall where lowering the outside ground is not enough on its own

What's included

  • Wall construction checked before drilling
  • Injection line set to the correct height
  • Holes drilled to a set pattern
  • Cream or fluid installed to the specification
  • Making-good of the drill line

What this visit does not do

  • Not for condensation, leaks, or rain through pointing
  • Not the first step when a path or render already bridges a sound course
  • Not a cure for a cavity that is full of debris
Method

How the visit runs

Wall construction and thickness are checked. The injection line is set at the correct height, holes follow the specified pattern, and cream or fluid is installed to that pattern. The drill line is made good. Plaster along the line is cut back so salts are not left in the finish.

1

Investigate first

We map the stain, take moisture readings, check salts where plaster has blown, and look outside at ground levels, gutters, pointing and the damp proof course line. The damp type is written down before any treatment.

2

Treat the path that is wet

Rising damp, rainwater, condensation, a bridged cavity or a wet cellar each get the repair that closes that path. A damp proof course is used only where groundwater is the cause.

3

Leave a record and a drying time

You get a treatment record and the guarantee that applies to the system installed. Plaster and paint wait until the readings say the wall is ready. Decorating a wet wall brings the mark back.

4
What changes the price

The price follows linear metres, wall thickness, and whether plaster has to be cut back along the line.

5
After the visit

Salt-resistant replastering and a ban on bridging the new line. Decoration waits for drying readings.

6
What fails if this is skipped

The installation carries the written guarantee, up to 30 years, if the line stays above outside ground and render. A later patio that covers it ends that protection in practice.

A DIY cream kit without readings, the right depth, or replastering is why low stains return the next year.

Questions

All FAQs

Whichever the wall specification calls for. Thickness, construction and the product’s own installation rules decide it. We do not pick a tin because it is on the van.

Injection is for walls where rising damp has been confirmed and the wall can take a course. A cavity that is bridged by mortar or insulation is cleared or repaired as cavity work, not injected and forgotten.

No. It stops further groundwater. Moisture already in the brick leaves over the following months. That is why plaster and paint are timed off readings.

Linear metres of wall, the thickness, and whether plaster is cut back along the line. Floors and joinery in the way are extra and are listed, not hidden.
