Structural Drying Services

Structural drying is measured drying of walls and floors in UK houses and flats after a leak, a flood, or a damp treatment that left the fabric wet. It is for rooms that still read wet after the source has been stopped. We do not repair the pipe itself. Request a quote with the form or WhatsApp.

Walls and floors hold water long after the leak stops. Drying is measured, not guessed from a dry-looking surface.

Symptoms

What people notice first

A room that is still wet weeks after a leak was stopped

Soft plaster, a sprung timber floor, or a carpet that smells

Masonry left saturated after a damp proof course

A ceiling stain that has not dried because the void is closed up

What's included

  • Baseline moisture readings
  • Drying equipment sized to the room
  • Checks while the fabric is drying
  • A finish point based on readings
  • Guidance before decoration

What this visit does not do

  • We do not repair the pipe, appliance or roof that caused the water
  • We do not lay a new floor or decorate as part of drying
  • Drying equipment is not a treatment for an ongoing leak
Method

How the visit runs

Once the water is stopped, we take baseline readings in the plaster, masonry and timber. Equipment is sized to that volume. Visits repeat the readings. The finish point is a reading, not a dry-looking surface.

1

Investigate first

We map the stain, take moisture readings, check salts where plaster has blown, and look outside at ground levels, gutters, pointing and the damp proof course line. The damp type is written down before any treatment.

2

Treat the path that is wet

Rising damp, rainwater, condensation, a bridged cavity or a wet cellar each get the repair that closes that path. A damp proof course is used only where groundwater is the cause.

3

Leave a record and a drying time

You get a treatment record and the guarantee that applies to the system installed. Plaster and paint wait until the readings say the wall is ready. Decorating a wet wall brings the mark back.

4
What changes the price

Hire time, room volume, how saturated the masonry is, and whether plaster has to be removed all change the cost.

5
After the visit

Do not close the wall with new plasterboard, vinyl or a floor finish before the finish reading. Trapped water blows the new work.

6
What fails if this is skipped

Dry fabric stays dry if the leak stays fixed. Decorating early is the usual reason a repaired ceiling stains again.

A domestic dehumidifier can hold a small room. It does not dry a saturated solid wall or a flooded screed on a useful timetable.

Questions

These are the questions for this job. Wider damp questions sit on the FAQ page.

All FAQs

Lightly wetted plaster can be days. Saturated brick and concrete screeds are often weeks. We say which after the first readings, and we adjust if the wall is thicker than it looked.

Often yes, with equipment in the wet rooms. A badly flooded ground floor may need those rooms out of use until the readings drop.

A plumber or a roofer, depending on the source. Book drying once they confirm the water has stopped.

When the finish readings say so. A hard surface is not the same as a dry wall.
