Basement & Cellar Waterproofing
Basement & Cellar Waterproofing
Basement and cellar waterproofing keeps a below-ground room dry in UK houses with a system matched to water pressure and how the room is used. It is for floors that wet after rain and walls that hold salts. It is not a surface paint. Request a quote with the form or WhatsApp.
Cellars wet from the ground as well as from the side. The system has to suit how you use the room and how the water arrives.

Water on the floor after rain
White salts and flaking paint on earth-retaining walls
A sump that already runs, or a previous tanking coat that has blistered
Damp smell in a room you want to store in or live in
What's included
- Survey of walls, floor and drainage
- A specification for tanking or a membrane system
- Pump and drainage considered where water collects
- Finishes planned around drying and salt
- A maintenance note for the system
What this visit does not do
- A specification for storage is not a guarantee that the room is habitable
- Pumps need power and someone to notice when they stop
- We will not hide a wall that has nowhere for water to discharge
How the visit runs
The survey records how water arrives: through the wall, up through the floor, or both, and whether there is drainage. Tanking, a cavity membrane, or a drained system is chosen for that pressure and for how the room will be used. Finishes are planned around salts and drying, not painted on the day.
Investigate first
We map the stain, take moisture readings, check salts where plaster has blown, and look outside at ground levels, gutters, pointing and the damp proof course line. The damp type is written down before any treatment.
Treat the path that is wet
Rising damp, rainwater, condensation, a bridged cavity or a wet cellar each get the repair that closes that path. A damp proof course is used only where groundwater is the cause.
Leave a record and a drying time
You get a treatment record and the guarantee that applies to the system installed. Plaster and paint wait until the readings say the wall is ready. Decorating a wet wall brings the mark back.
What changes the price
Depth, floor area, groundwater, access for materials, and whether the room must be habitable all sit in the written price.
After the visit
Service the pump and the alarm if one is fitted. Do not screw through a membrane into the earth-retaining wall. Keep external ground drains clear.
What fails if this is skipped
A cement tanking coat on a wall with ongoing water pressure often blisters. A drained membrane system lasts if the pump and the discharge are maintained. The guarantee names which system was installed.
Bitumen and “tanking paint” on a wet cellar wall fail as soon as water pressure returns. They are a decoration, not a waterproofing design.
